Potions Lesson One --- Ravenclaw and Slytherin

[Professor Jason Reid]

Jason was ridiculously excited about his first class, having been a pencil pusher for some time now at the Ministry he was very much looking forward to some hand on fun, and that just what he had in store. He had been in the classroom now for some time, setting up his elaborate lesson plan, he was going to show these students just how exciting potions could be.

He looked over his empty classroom one more time, a different potion sitting innocently (and some no so innocently) on every desk.

"Bring it on!" He said excitedly into the empty room.

Vivienne thought Potions class was interesting, and that was why she was so anxious for the lesson. The new professor could be so many things. It could be a wise old man with many tales from the wizarding world long ago, or a younger person with exciting new teaching methods and activities for the class. Either way, Vivienne had her small bag packed with everything she would need for the class.

She descended the stairs and paused just a few feet outside the door. She could've sworn she heard someone inside shout. Naturally she was curious, but Vivienne couldn't help but feel a little nervous now as well. She huffed bravely, put a smile on her face, and entered.

Inside, she found that it was only the professor. Vivienne took a quick glance at all the potions on the tables and took a seat in the middle of the room, sitting behind a potion that had an eerie fog rolling off the top of it. "Good morning, professor." She chirped, excited for class to begin.

Ella didn't attend many classes.

THought she knew that they were getting a new potions professor, and rumor has it that he is a bit of a hottie... Well she needed to see this for herself.

Walking into the potions classroom did not disappoint. It really should be illegal for professors to be so ridiculously good looking. Ella though, was a girl of little boundaries, so she made sure to shoot the professor a smirk before taking a seat at the same table as Vivienne.

"Uhh good morning girls." Jason said, thrown off balance a little bit by the young Slytherin girl who just shot him a wink.

"I hope you're ready for a fun lesson!" He said, trying to sound enthused but just sounding nervous. 'Not too much fun I hope.' He thought too himself as he eyed the young blonde wearily.

Jess was not looking forward to potions. Firstly it was her worst class, secondly, she had no idea what the new Professor was like and thirdly it was with the Slytherins so she neither had the help of Corey or Nathan.

She squared her shoulders and took a deep breath as she opened the door. And oh, there were potions everywhere! Not knowing whether she was excited or nervous she made her way over to Viv's table.

"Hello Viv." She said, peeking curiously into the cauldron at their table.

Jason looked at the still nearly empty room before glancing at his pocket watch, slightly disappointed with the turn out, he thought for sure more Ravenclaws would be attending such a core class. Oh well, maybe the excitement of the first day of school was a bit much for most of the students.

"Ok guys, this looks like it for today. My name is Professor Reid." He said in his 'teacher voice'.
"Now, before we get to the lesson were going to be doing some ice breaker games. What we're going to do is go around the room and I want you to tell me your favourite potion, and then tell me your favourite, and least favourite thing about potions. Ok, I'll go first. My favourite potion is." He paused, thinking for a little while. There were so many to chose from... "I would have to say Babbling Beverage. You find a lot out from a person with that. And ah, my favourtie, and lest favourite thing about potions is the same thing. That the smallest mistake can mean starting all over again." He finished with a smile. "Ok, who's next?" He asked opening it out for the class.

[Daniel Santos]

Dan looked at his watch and groaned. It was the first day of classes and already he was late, Dan just hoped it didn't reflect on his marks for the rest of the year.

After nearly knocking over a third year Dan mumbled out a quick apology and ran even faster.

Out of breath and absolutely knackered Dan arrived at the potions classroom and made his way to an empty table, not bothering to make up an excuse, he was a terrible liar anyway and the truth of it was he'd been sleeping, which was quite embarrassing when Dan looked at it closely.

Shoving his bag next to his seat Dan flashed a quick grin at the familiar faces before letting it slide off his face awkwardly as he realised they had a new teacher.

Nervously Dan raised and his hand and spoke, ignoring any possible jeers from classmates, he almost always answered questions on principle, whether he knew the answer or not didn't really matter to him.

"That'd be me sir I guess, uhh I'd say Felix Felicis, liquid luck, is my favourite potion, my favourite thing is the different stuff that you can do and my least favourite is the amount of precision you need."

At his last word Dan awkwardly rubbed the nape of his neck, as if that would solve his constant uncomfortable feelings around most people.

[Ella Grace]

Ella eyed Daniel as he entered the room,

taking the professors question as a que to grab some attention. She stood, and perched herself on the edge of her table. "Mine is Amortentia" she said, peering into the potion on the table. I don't like how bad a potion can turn with a mistake.... But I think that's my favorite part as well." she ended, trying to lock in eye contact with Professor Ried.

[Vivienne Coffey]

Vivienne wasn't a big fan of Ella, and chose to her avoid her when it was possible. Jess was much more tolerable, if not enjoyable, to be around. She generally disliked sharing class with Slytherin students, but some things just couldn't be ignored.

Ella was nearly blatantly hitting on the professor, but she kept her mouth shut. When they expressed their favorite potions, she glanced at hers once again before replying. "I like the Invigoration Draught, playing sports can really take it out of you, and an energy boost sometimes would be really nice."

'Ohh uh, Hi, I'm Jess." Jess said after Viv spoke. "I like the Manegro Potion the best, because once when I was younger I cut my hair, and my Mum gave me this and it grew back." Jess explained with a fond smile. "And I guess the best thing about potions is that you can do just about anything with them." She said, thinking about her next answer carefully. "And what i don't like is that it only take one mistake to ruin a potion." She finished with a smile too the Professor.

Oh, this was going great, now he just had to remember the names of all of his students, easier said than done. Ohh, and stay away from the Slytherin girl.

"Alright, seems like nearly all of us are in agreement that we like to be forgiven for our mistakes, but the thing is, a perfectly brewed potion is just that. Perfect. I have a few potions scattered around the class and what I want you guys to do is investigate, try them out, I guarantee you they're all safe to try, I brewed them myself. In fact I tested them all this morning, let me tell you it was an interesting time." He said, eyes sparkling. "So everyone get up and get amongst it!" He said enthusiastically to the class.

Ella cast her eyes around there room.

There was no way she was trying her potion first, it was hard to trust bubbling brews when you had no idea what they were. She was going to let one of the nerdy Ravenclaws try it out first, they were always scrubbing for some brownie points anyway.

Dan made a beeline for the potions, he was desperate to be away from the situation that would undoubtedly lead to a catfight.

A clear vial stood out to Dan and it immediately clicked in his head as to what it was, sensing an opportunity Dan grabbed the vial and strode over to Vivienne and Jess.

With a wide grin on his face Dan offered the vial to the girls, hoping that it would distract them from a showdown or whatever it was that would happen without intervention.

"What do you think? Willing to try some of this?"

"I'll try anything once." Jess said with a smile. She took the vial from Daniel and took a small sip. The potion tasted, well, wonderful! It was like all of her favourite foods all at once, peppermint with chocolate and at the same time roast potatoes covered with butter and gravy. Just the thought of it made her burst out in giggles. Actually, it wasn't just the taste, EVERYTHING was funny. The look on Viv's face, the colour of the floor and even the cauldron, happily bubbling away was hilarious.

"Ohh my." She said through giggles. "I like this potion." She managed.

Viv wasn't the first to jump at drinking a potion, and luckily she didn't have to. Jess jumped on the idea of trying them out, and watched as the potion worked it's magic. "Really? What does it taste like? What's happening?" Vivienne preferred taking notes and observing to drinking down mysterious fluids.
