Oh the restricted section of the library and the ability to win teachers over. What a beautiful combination and it was one that Declan had long ago learnt to use to his ability. The thing was, it hadn't taken him long to learn that all the best books containing information about his obsession (The Dark Lord) were kept in the restricted section and so he'd been left with a bit of a problem, one that he'd quickly learnt how to solve. By gaining at least one teachers trust by showing dedication to his studies, he'd guaranteed himself a note into this part of the library whenever he wanted, which was exactly what he was doing today. A pile of history books now gathered in his arms, Declan made his way forth towards the closest table, dropping the books atop it before settling himself down and burying his nose in the top one.

She was already sitting at the table when someone joined her, and Scarlett looked up to see Declan Fletcher sat there opening a book. She found herself entirely curious about what he was reading and why, and so glanced at his books. They looked like books that weren't common but she didn't want to say anything about that, instead just examining the spines. Finally she looked at him again, not sure whether or not she should ask him a question. Maybe he would greet her and she could work around to it.

It was funny what one learnt from observation and Declan definitely did his fair share of observing different things, especially while he was in the library where it was sometimes so easy to be distracted, something he'd been working on since he was little and had, thankfully, gotten better at. However, he knew that Scarlett spent a lot of time in the library and he knew that she was interested healing, something he could definitely appreciate, which was perhaps why he offered up his little tidbit of information.
'There's quite a few books in relation to healing properties in the restricted section. I could get you one, if you'd like?' He spoke strongly, not sure whether she would accept or not, but he could feel her gaze on him and he figured he ought to say something, at least. This, to him, seemed like the best option.

She just blinked for a second, then nodded dumbly. That hadn't been what she was expecting. When had he taken such an interest in her life? "That would be lovely, thank you" She answered after a second, blushing. He must have caught her looking at him and wanted him to stop; that was the only logical explanation. But still; how did he know she was interested in healing? Had he paid that much attention to her?

To Declan it was amazing the things you picked up simply by being quiet and watching, but he often forgot that most people weren't as observative as what he was. Now this wasn't to say that he didn't think that Scarlett wasn't observative, it simply meant that he doubted she went around studying people the way that he did and so rather than sit and watch her blushing, he rose to his feet, disappearing for a few minutes before returning with the book he'd been talking about in hand, passing it her way before sitting himself down once again, burying his nose into his own book.

She accepted the book, opening and scanning the table of contents until she found antidotes. She loved antidotes, she found them the most interesting of any kind of medical magic. After flipping to the section and reading it thoroughly (admittedly making some notes) She looked up at Declan. "Thank you, for this. I really appreciate it" She said quietly, hoping not to disturb him too much more than she already had.

'Anytime' Declan nodded genuinely when she finally spoke up again. He truly had no problem with doing such a thing for her, not when she'd never given him any reason not to. It was funny how little people actually realised about him, especially considering he could be nice enough in circumstances like this one given the opportunity to do so. As long as people didn't annoy him before hand, he saw no reason not to be generous and helpful.

She hesitated, then opened her mouth again, "How did you know?" Scarlett asked him. She'd never outright told him, and in fact they'd interacted very little over the course of the last seven years.

'It's somewhat difficult to miss you when you're in here so much. Observation, I suppose' Declan responded, figuring this was true enough. Besides, he had a feeling that she was somewhat similar to him, that she paid attention to more than she let on and he figured this meant she would at least somewhat understand what he was on about.

She repeated the word Observation with a small smile. "I guess I am in here a lot" she admitted. "You are too. History mostly. Are you researching particular events?" She asked, curious. She'd always wanted to know.

'More so one event in particular' Declan admitted, not at all bothered by the fact that she was nosing into his business, simply because he'd already nosed into hers, but with slightly different tactics. Rather than try and explain, he simply pushed the book in front of him across to her, feeling that it was the best way of explaining, especially since the topic was such a sensitive one.

She took the offered book and started reading through it briefly before looking up at him again. She was surprised in a way but then again not at all surprised. "Are you looking for specific information?" She asked

'It's a bit odd, don't you think, how he had all these loyal followers who abandoned him the first time. Why would you take them back a second time, isn't that just signing your own defeat?' Declan pondered curiously, simply addressing the thing that was bothering him about the Dark Lord's downfall today.

"Quantity over quality maybe?" Scarlett offered, pondering it herself. She never liked to think about things like this, but since he was asking, or it seemed like he was asking, for her opinion, she thought it polite to share. "In terms of a battle, it normally would be better to have more soldiers, even if they were less trustworthy or effective."

'Normally yes, but wouldn't you think that after the first time he'd have learnt that perhaps in this particular situation that wasn't the case?' Declan argued politely. It all just didn't make sense to him how the most powerful wizard of the age (besides Dumbledore, of course) could make such a monumental mistake not once, but twice.
