'Ridiculous' He mumbled quietly, not sure whether she would hear or not, but it wasn't really said to be heard. He couldn't help but wonder briefly whether that generation even realised that despite the fact that no one truly wanted Lord Voldemort around and they all said they wanted to put it behind them, it seemed to be the topic of choice amongst them when given the opportunity to choose.

"My father," Scarlett explained, "Has this theory that eventually someone else is going to try to do the same. And so he tells me constantly to be careful and all sorts of things, not to get 'tangled up in it' like he did." To her, it made very little sense. If she believed in an ideal, she would likely get tangled up no matter what her father said.

'My mother can't wait for that day and my father just sits at the kitchen table and grunts his agreement' Declan compared, wondering why their parents were so different. It was almost wrong, really, that his parents had had very little to do with Voldemort, at least as far as them being Death Eaters went, and they wanted someone new to come along, yet her father had been one and didn't want his daughter caught up in it all.

"Very different" She murmured, frowning. "I guess everyone wanted different things, right?" Scarlett shrugged. "I always feel that I'll support whoever I think has the best ability to lead us in the right direction" Right was a very liberal term for it, too.

'What if there's no one to lead us in that direction?' Declan asked her curiously, wondering what she'd do then.

"Then I stay out of it until there is" Scarlett shrugged. "As much as I'd like to... I don't know, be that person, I'm not. I'd be stuttery and nervous. It'd have to be someone who's really sure of themselves."

'Maybe, or maybe that's just a recipe for disaster. Someone sure of themselves normally isn't very willing to bend or accept other ideas' Declan protested somewhat.

"But someone who's sure of themselves can at least make a decision." She countered, "I think there would have to be a balance."

'I guess that's probably true. Perhaps what we'd need would be two people who actually listen to each other and take in what the other is saying' Declan shrugged, knowing how many flaws such a plan had, but like most plans it sounded good in theory.

"If I had someone I trusted, I might..." She trailed shrugging. "I don't know. It's a silly hypothetical to think about." Scarlett decided, shaking her head. "Very silly."

'That would be the problem, really, wouldn't it? Finding someone you trusted, someone who wasn't going to screw you over. Perhaps that's where everyone's downfall lies' Declan pondered, ignoring her comment about it being silly, especially now that she'd given him something to think about.

"I think if you shared a mentality trust would be easy to build. It'd be a working trust, not a friendship trust or a lover's trust." She shrugged. "I just don't know anyone I'd trust like that."

'Trust gets broken, quite easily, and I think that would be where the problem would lie, especially if one party started to fake the trust' Declan nodded, agreeing with what she was saying. How did one even go about beginning to find someone they trusted enough for such a thing?

"I guess, as long as it was two people who were honest and logical it wouldn't be bad" She pointed out, "On the same wavelength and all."

'I guess that's true. I suppose we'll never know, unless a situation like that comes along' Declan shrugged somewhat.
