'You don't have to thank me' Declan told her honestly, knowing there as no need for it. It had been because he'd wanted to, not because she'd forced him or anything.

"But I am thankful" Scarlett told him, frowning.

'Okay' Declan said with a shrug of his shoulders after a moments pause, not really sure how else to address the topic.

She was quiet for a second, just walking along beside him, before Scarlett tentatively reached for his hand, wondering if he'd let her slide her smaller one into it.

Declan had probably never been so taken off guard in his life as when she slid her hand into his! It was the last thing he'd expected and of course his first reaction was to yank his hand from her grip, but amazing he managed to restrain himself, instead frowning down at their hands before simply setting his face and continuing to walk along beside her.

She waited for him to ask her what she was doing - to freak out, or pull his hand away. But he didn't. He just looked at it and then ahead again. She almost wasn't sure if that was better or worse than what she expected his reaction to be. So Scarlett continued on quietly beside him, biting her lip and curious about what she should do. Or say. "I was thinking about what we were talking about before, in the library. About becoming a leader." She said finally, not sure where else to go with the conversation. "The muggle peacekeeper Ghandi said "be the change you wish to see in the world" I don't know where to start, but I might like to be the change."

She was taking him by surprise, bursting out with something like that, but almost straight away it got Declan's thoughts turning over, her hand in his all but forgotten. The frown on his face remained, but now it was one of deep thought, rather than the slight distaste that had originally brought it around.
'What kind of change do you want?' He asked after a few moments, feeling this to be an important question. There was, after all, no point in jumping on board without even knowing what direction it might take.

She wasn't a hundred percent sure what exactly she wanted. Something better. "I'm not sure yet," Scarlett answered him honestly, "I have to sit down and figure out what exactly I'm trying to do, and how to get there" She just thought he might want to know.
