Corey Parker detests breakfast in the Great Hall. It's not get the food, don't get him wrong, he loves the food, it's just the atmosphere. Frankly it's just too damn early in the morning to be doing anything with that many people around him. And that is why he finds himself here of all places, waiting for his best friend Nathan, who mind you was probably trying to get his hair just perfect in the bathroom mirror...again, to get his ass out in the corridor so that they could get breakfast.

Nathan was trying a new thing, his mother was telling him about it during school break, push negative out, breath positive in. He figured that this mentality would benefit his friend Corey much more than himself, but he decided to lead by example... Maybe if he modeled positive thinking Corey might pick up on it... They were only one month into their first term and already Corey's hatred of breakfast (the most important meal of the day he has reminded him) is starting to grate him.
Of course having decided that this would be his first new you day, his hair wanted to throw a spanner in the works. Can't get it to work, it loks aweful, you really should have spent a little more time in fr...'.
"Heeeeey Corey..." Nathan greeted, a tight smile on his face. "You ready for some top quality breakfast?"

Corey frowned for a moment at Nathan's chirpy greeting.
"Uhhh yes?" He asked more than answered. "No, yes I'm ready." He said, shaking himself mentally from the shock of happy rolling from Nathan.
"Your hair looks different today." Corey said as they began to make their way through the corridor. The smallest of smiles playing on his lips knowing that Nathan was probably fussing about this morning.

Not only did Nathan's face fall, but his whole posture seemed to slump. Wow hit him where it hurts. "Yeah yeah, it uhh, it is different, I decided that I uhh, I wanted to try something new... That's all." He replied, fumbling for his words. He let out a small breath, trying to remind himself about positivity. He gathered all the positive energy around him in one big breath. "Change is good ya know." He said. They walked along the corridor, as he searched him mind for something to say. He needed to get Corey in on the positive thinking... It was to help him, meet more people, get out more, be all around happier.

Corey nearly gave a laugh at how sad Nathan looked about the hair thing.
"No man, it looks good, change is... great." he said, trying to sound as enthusiastic as possible, but only managing sarcastic. Hmmm. "So, excited for a new term? I have potions first pretty happy with that, but I have a double of charms after lunch. How about you?" Corey asked to get Nathan talking again, he still looked pretty downcast about the hair comment.

Potions... Nathan was sure that he checked that class, and that it was with the Gryffindor house. "We're together for potions, I'm sure of it... Pity its first thing in the morning though. But hey double charms? That's something to look forward to." He said as he pulled the rucksack from his back... He has to made sure that he had the right text books, potions is hard enough but doing it without instructions? Forget about it. "Though we aren't together in charms... I'm with the Ravenclaw class..." he said smirking, any mention of a ravenclaw class he had a smile on his face that he couldn't wipe off.

Corey rolled his eyes internally at the mention of the Ravenclaw class Nathan mentioned, one guess as to why he was happy about that. "Hmm, and do you think you're going to talk to her about.... you know?" Corey asked, insistently. Being a close friend to both Jess and Nathan he found it extremely frustrating and amusing that the two of them danced around each other so much.
He shot Nathan a sly grin as they made their way up the Basement Stairs, he chuckled to himself as a thought came to him.
"Unless, you don't like her as much as I thought, you know, she is pretty, maybe I have a shot with her." He suggested in jest. He absolutely was never going to be romantic with Jess. She and Nathan were made for each other.

Nathans.head snapped up, his eyes landing on Corey's face. "Hey man, I know your only joking..." He said, using all of the self control that he had not to add a 'Right?' on the end. Corey didn't care much for relationships or girls... and he was sure that he wouldn't be interested in a girl as nice as Jess. "I just.. need to.... I don't know..." He said, why did he always bring up this topic with Corey, when he had no idea how to talk about it? "I'm sure she just see's me as a friend." He said, freindzoned hard.

"Yeah, yeah I get it, just a friend. Look I know she's not... hmmm" Corey thought for a moment trying to find a delicate way to say socially stunted. "Not as good at reading a situation as most people are." He said, pleased with himself, he should really be a motivational speaker or something. Right.
"But one day she's going to fall in love with some other guy and you're not going to be able to do anything about it apart from listening to her talk endlessly about him, and help her write a love song for him because that's what friends are for." He ended, a little harshly, but hey tough love is his specialty.

A very unique and gruttal moan was all Nathan could muster up in response to Corey. "Man, you don'y have to... I mean why do you wanna put such negative things out there this early in the morning?" He asked, dangerously close to sulking. His hands deep in the pockets of his pants and his eyes fixed to the floor as he stumbled along.
It was seeming impossible to even be positive around Corey, let alone have some positivity rub of on him.

Corey almost rolled his eyes at his friends lack of confidence.
"Fine, I'm sorry, well at least you can look at the bright side." Corey said, trying to get his friends 'Fantastic Morning' back on track. Some thing positive.... positive, well there was the fact that Christmas decorations were going to be up soon. Personally Corey hated Christmas but he knew Jess loved it and she was always in such a great mood around Christmas which meant Nathan would be in a good mood. Ugh wait, why does he even know that? Those two were starting to get to him.
"Yeah I got nothing." he finished lamely. "But I promise I'll stop talking about Jess dating other people." Corey said, knowing it was the kind of promise he was happy to keep.

"Urghh..." Nathan sounded. "Why shouldn't you?" He asked, his voice was escalating... He was really that great at these confronting sort of conversations, so his nerves were running high. "It's gonna happen eventually right?" He asked. "And probably sooner than later..." He added. It was true, a funny, smart, unique pretty young thing like Jess should be the cream of everyones crop... He had a hard time understanding why all the boys in the school weren't so madly in love with her like he was.

Corey raised his eyebrows in surprise. Geez this kid was super dejected about this.
"Seriously man." Corey said solemnly. "Just ask her out if she means that much to you." He offered simply. "Someone might swoop in and wow her, but I doubt it. She doesn't really come to mind as the dating type. Besides, what's the worst that could happen?" Corey offered, trying to cheer the guy up. Before he started talking to Corey he was in such a great mood, now Corey's bleak look on life was catching. That's the last thing he needed.
"Her saying no is the worst that could happen. Just no." He said, answering his own question.

It was all Nathan could do to explode into a speech about how she would say no (there is no might about it) and then slowly she would find excuses not to hang out with him and begin avoiding him. She would steer them further and further apart until they weren't even friends anymore. He would have to deal with the sting of rejection and the loss of a close friend.
"I'm sorta done talking about this..." Nathan mumbled, trailing away. He meant for it to sound much more firm, a little more authoritative. "Wanna go for a run this afternoon?" He asked, hoping that the complete curve ball change in conversation will allow Corey to forget how pathetic and sappy he just got on the whole Jess subject. "Sorta part of this new 'me' thing I'm trying out.."

Corey barked out a surprised laugh at Nathan's suggestion.
"A run?" he asked. "Me?" He added, as if it wasn't clear that Nathan was talking to him. Corey was about to laugh Nathan out of the castle at the suggestion, but a small twinge of guilt played through his chest. He had managed to destroy Nathan's first day back in the best place in the world in one foul swoop.
"I suppose I could try." Corey said, the hesitation clear in his voice. he did feel as though he owed Nathan. "Ok sure." He said more firmly. "A run, that should be...." Corey searched for the right word. "Fun." He finished, settling on the wrong one.
