As much as Jess hated to admit it when she was at Hogwarts she never really got time to play any music, and that was a crying shame! So that is why she found herself in the music room as often as possible, jamming out like a pro on her uke. That was muggle for Ukelele, an amazing muggle instrument that didn't even need magic! Nathan showed it to her in their second year. It was amazing!
So now, here she was, playing the ukelele trying to find a chord prgression that fit, sometimes her muse would just escape her!

Michael had been looking for an empty class room for the last fifteen minutes. He had his guitar hanging across his back looking for a quite place. He usually would have just practiced in the common room, but there were some rather focused people in there right now. He thought it was better not to disturb them besides he was just practicing it wasn't like he was playing a song just going through his exercises to keep his fingers limber and callused enough to play.
He was just turning another corner when he heard the familiar sound of a string instrument. It wasn't a guitar he would have recognized a guitar. It sounded like . . . a ukulele? That seemed slightly odd. He fallowed the sound till it led him to a door. It was the music room. That made sense he figured but the music room was usually empty unless there was a class. He never used it because he preferred the acoustics in the hall. He peeked in and saw a girl who's face he knew though her name escaped him. He had never been very good with names anyway. He sat down in a chair in the corner and just watched for a while. "Is this a private session or can I join you?" His guitar was now sitting across his lap as he carefully tuned it to perfection.

Jess looked up at the voice, slightly surprised, not many other people used this classroom besides her and Corey, and she suspected that Corey only used it because he couldn't actually fit a piano in dormitories.
"I uhh" Jess said eloquently, slightly lost for words as she took the new guy in. He was carrying a guitar, and well that was very cool. She got the distinct vibe of Gryffindor from him, though she was unclear why, they looked about the same age, perhaps she had seen him before in one of their classes.
"No." She said, after what felt like an age. "Come on in." She invited with a sweeping gesture, of course accidently knocking over a music stand.
"Ohh shoot!" She said as she sprang to her feet to pick it up.

"Don't bother" he said whipping out his wand to quickly levitate the stand back on it's feet. He loved magic and though he had a distinct work ethic that drove him to do a lot of things the muggle way for little chores he couldn't help but use magic, plus any time taken away from music was wasted time to him. He moved to a chair closer to her so they could converse more easily if they decided to talk at all. He was fine with talking as long as he wasn't playing anything too difficult.
He looked at her making a sweeping motion with his own arm inviting her to sit again. His motion was more successful since nothing crashed to the ground, but he wasn't the type of guy to point that out. He flashed her a smile. Propping his feet up on one of the chairs near the one she had been occupying. In this position he looked like his picture should appear next to relaxation in the dictionary.
He went back to tuning his guitar. It had been a while since he had used this one so it was a little out of tune. He had been trying to see if he could get his electric guitar to work using magic instead of electricity, it wasn't go so well. He could get it to play, but it sounded funny. He thought it sounded funny at least. His mother had insisted that an electric guitar was a good idea, and he had completely agreed until he brought it to Hogwarts and remembered that there wasn't any electricity. He was sure he would get it to work sooner or later.
Since he just felt like playing today he decided to use his acoustic guitar instead. Once he felt that all of the strings were properly stretched he held out his hand. "I'm Michael Pacirion by the way. My friends call me Mic, unless I do something stupid then they call me Hael. You know like when ice falls from the sky?" His friends had found that nickname hilarious when they came up with it. Michael hadn't been as amused, but being accident prone he had to admit it sort of fit him sometimes.

'Oh right,' Jess thought to herself. 'Magic' She thought to herself as she watched the stand right itself. She turned to see the guy again. Michael.
"Hi." She said brightly, grabbing his hand as she plonked herself down int he seat next to him. "I'm Jess." She said, positioning her ukelele back into position in her lap.
She watched him as he tuned his guitar, a small smile playing on her lips. Now that he was so close she noticed just how handsome he was. Tall dark and handsome in deed!

He was a bit surprised at the force she used to shake his hand, but he liked a firm handshake. He hated weak wimpy handshakes it made it feel like the person didn't really want to meet you. He knew that wasn't necessarily true, but that was what it felt like to him. He shook her hand back firmly. "Nice to meet you Jess." He gave her another half smile the one that just lifted the left side of his mouth and made him look like he was keeping secrets even if he wasn't.
He started playing a few cords on his guitar just to get the feel and make sure it was tuned right. "I hope I'm not disturbing you by coming in here It's just I heard you playing and the only other person I know who plays is Corey and well he has a tendency to come off a little hostile so I try and avoid confrontation with him. I would love to have someone to discuss music with though." He really looked excited at the prospect. Michael loved making new friends at any rate.
Michael noticed he wasn't wearing his head boy badge and was glad of the fact people seemed more stiff and less likely to joke around and laugh with him when he was wearing the badge. He had to wear it during class time, but he specifically took if off as soon as possible, but it stayed like a constant weight in his pocket if he needed to use his authority. He wondered if Jess recognized him as head boy.

Jess's smile grew wider at the friendly introduction, 'Finally, someone who loved music who was just as friendly as her!' She thought happily to herself.
"Yeah, Corey can come off a little gruff, but I suspect that deep down he's a big softie." Jess said, watching Michael's fingers ghost the patterns of chords on his guitar. "He's best friends with my best friend actually." Jess said in way of explaining, not pausing for a moment to think about the complexity of her statement. "But I am glad to have someone here that I can talk about music with!" She said enthusiastically, reaching down to wrap her hand around the neck of her ukelele, fingering a chord progression she was just trying to suss out.

Michael wasn't so sure about Corey being a softie on any level no matter how deep you went, but he didn't really mind Corey and usually gave him the benefit of the doubt he would just rather avoid confrontation with the guy when possible. Of course Corey was in his house so it wasn't like he never interacted with him.
He thought about it trying to remember seeing Corey with anyone. "I think I knew the guy you mean. He's a Huffelpuff isn't he? I think it is one of the few people I have ever seen Corey being completely nice too." He was silent for a minute thinking. Maybe Corey was nice to more people, but not as often at any rate.
Michael looked at the ukulele as Jess played her progression. "Do you play anything else by chance? I mean the ukulele is cool and unique, but I was thinking about trying to get a group of us music lovers together, provided i could find any, and starting a weekly group jam session." He started to play a staccato blues inspired riff lightly on his guitar. "Would you be interested in something like that?" He gave her a hopeful raise eyebrow almost as if he was saying please.

"Ohh!" Jess said, surprised by the invitation. "That sounds lovely!" she said with a large grin, it seemed as though it never left her face around this Michael guy.
"I only play the ukelele though." She confessed, in as close to a dissapointed voice as she could ever get. "I tried to learn the Tuba once." She started, a very loud and embarrassing flashback popping into mind, concerning her, a tuba and a very frightened cat. "But uhh, it wasn't really my thing. At least no cats can get hurt with my ukelele!" She added positively, holding it up slightly like a medal.
"I would love the chance to hang out with some fellow music lovers." Jess said in her I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to say, but here goes nothing voice. "I could really use some help with writing a song for Nathan. Uhh, Corey's Hufflepuff." She added in explanation as she nestled her ukelele back into its comfortable position in her lap, fingers ghosting over her elusive perfect chord progression once more.

He laughed a bit. "I need to find enough music players first." He shook his head he had been looking for music lovers for the past two years. He had a feeling part of the reason he didn't find many was because like him they probably played more in their respective common rooms than anywhere else. He supposed he could have camped out in the music room to see if other people used it, but that seemed very extensive.
He looked at the ukulele. He had an inquisitive look on his face. It looked like a guitar. It only had four strings, but a bass only had four strings. Maybe she could play something else she just didn't know it yet. "Do you mind if I try that?" If it was like a bass guitar . . . Well he could lend her his if she wanted to try. He preferred his regular guitar anyway. It would be nice to hear the two together though and it would be even better for his bass to get some use. It spent most of it's time collecting dust.

"Oh sure, go ahead!" She said with an easy smile, handing the small instrument too Michael. "I've noticed a few musicians around here." She said, tilting her head as she thought for a moment. "Sometimes the people that you least expect turn out to be musicians." She added with a happy smile, she genuinely loved how surprising music could be. She had never, when they had first met, would have guessed that Corey would be passionate about anything really, and well then she saw him playing the piano and she changed her point of view very quickly.

Michael plucked at the strings instrument she offered experimentally. It sounded a bit different but it played almost exactly the way a bass guitar did. A bass guitar was just larger. It was much larger, but almost anything was larger than a ukulele. He gave a few more experimental strums on the miniature bass before handing it back to her. He had a mischievous smile that said he definitely had a plan. He looked at her raising an eyebrow.
He let it fall realizing that she would have no idea what he was thinking. He leaned back further in his chair the front two feet coming up balancing on the back two. "You know that plays almost exactly like a bass guitar." He strummed his guitar trying to appear nonchalant. "I have one you know, not a ukulele a bass guitar. It is just gather dust in my dorm room right now if I don't know maybe you want to give it a try?" He quirked his mouth up at the corners quickly looking at her in his peripheral vision. He was trying to look bored, but he was anxious to see what she would say.

Jess looked surprised for a moment, genuinely taken aback by his offer, she reached out automatically and took her ukelele back and nestled it back into her lap. "Ok, sure!" She said, happy to give anything new a try. "Hey," she added almost as an after thought. "Maybe if I'm good at the bass guitar I can join your band!" She said cheerily, excited by the prospect of meeting more musicians at school.

Michael laughed out loud. He didn't mean to laugh at her but it was just so funny. "I would love that, but I don't have a band. I have me. I can play and own all the instruments I would need for a band, thought I don't have the drum kit here, but I only have me to play them. They haven't taught us that cloning spell yet I'm afraid so a band . . . well not yet." His laugh had died down to a slight chuckle.
AS he shook his head again he pulled out his wand and mumbled 'Acio Bass' He let his chair fall to all four feet again with a scarily loud crack that even made him jump a bit. He waited for the bass to arrive setting his six string down leaning it against a near by chair. "I think you will be good at this. It isn't that hard there are some basic cords and a lot of strumming that is about it." Finally the bass flew in and Mic caught it deftly in one hand. He was being surprisingly coordinated today. It must be a side effect of focusing on his music. He held out the bass to her. "Give it a try."

Jess watched as Micheal laughed, deciding very quickly that she liked the sound, and the way his eyes sparkled. Ohh, that was an odd thought.
She took the bass, surprised for a moment at how heavy it was, she raised her eyebrows as she set it in her lap, the length of the neck very unfamiliar to her.
"Well." She said, moving her fingers up the neck of the bass, trying to get a feel of the frets. "I could ask Corey, he's really good at piano, if he wants to join." She added as she strummed the guitar. She let out a surprised oh at how deep the sound was, very much used to the chirpy sounds her Ukelele would make, but deciding that the two were similar enough, she moved to strum again, this time it sounded like a real note and she smiled and Michael, happy with her success.
"Ohh, I did it!" She said, eyes sparkling.
